Phil is a brown belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and has been training martial arts for over 15 years. He grew up in Vancouver but spent the majority of his adult life in Toronto. In 2003, Phil found himself at UFC 48 in Las Vegas with his brother and fell in love with combat sports. He started training Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu shortly after and fell into an MMA heavy gym in Burlington with a focus on Carlson Gracie Jiu Jitsu. After moving back to Vancouver a couple of times and extensive travel for work Phil has had the opportunity to train at multiple schools and been influenced by various BJJ styles. Phil received his blue belt from Professor Marcus Soares in 2012 and his purple belt from Professor Marcio Nunes in 2016. He has also competed extensively in Jiu Jitsu tournaments both in Canada and the USA and was a top 10 ranked competitor as a blue belt in Canada.
Outside the gym, Phil is a father of 2 boys and lives down in the beaches. He is also a Business Development Manager covering Global Healthcare for Elo Touch Solutions and spends plenty of time in planes.
