At Tanuki Martial Arts, we take a constraint-based approach to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Instead of just memorizing techniques and trying to force them in sparring, our classes are designed to help you understand the principles behind the movements and develop the ability to adapt in real situations.
You'll learn through a combination of instruction, drills, and structured training exercises that help you solve problems on the mats. By working through different positions, scenarios, and challenges, you'll build better timing, decision-making, and confidence while developing a deeper understanding of BJJ.
Whether you're completely new or have years of experience, this approach helps you improve at your own pace while learning how and when techniques actually work. The goal isn't just to collect moves, but to become a better, more adaptable grappler.
We pride ourselves on creating a space where everyone feels comfortable learning at their own pace. Expect instructors and teammates who will help guide you, not overwhelm you.
Classes include learning new techniques, and practicing them with controlled resistance. This ensures you learn why something works, not just how to do it.
Rolling in BJJ and light to moderate sparring in MMA or striking are offered in a controlled, coach-supervised setting. Beginners are never forced to spar and are paired appropriately.
We welcome all fitness levels. You do not need to get in shape first. Training will get you in shape. Coaches will help you modify intensity as needed.
Our curriculum emphasizes strong basics, proper mechanics, and long-term development. We want you training for years, not weeks.
